True to its name, Komodo Island is the native habitat of the species known by its Latin name Varanus Komodoensis, commonly known as the Komodo dragon. This giant lizard is on the list of ancient animals. Uniquely, Komodo dragons cannot be found on any other island in the world except Komodo Island. Despite occasional relocation to other islands, these reptiles seem to have a homesick nature and will return to the island of their birth by swimming. Currently, Komodos are considered rare creatures in the world. It is estimated that the population of this ancient species is only in the thousands.

The Komodo's saliva is also highly toxic, containing deadly bacteria that can quickly immobilize its prey. Additionally, Komodos possess a tail swipe that is equally hazardous. As adults, they can reach sizes of up to 3 meters, weigh up to 90 kilograms, and detect their prey from a distance of 12 kilometers. Despite their large size, Komodos are agile creatures with high endurance, enabling them to move much farther than other lizards.
